ICI

ICI is a concert in the form of a meeting place between a place and its audience. Each performance is elaborated on site, in collaboration with the space that will host ensemble soundinitiative. The ensemble curates the content of the performance, the format, and the organisation, in relation to the unique architecture of each space, to best set each it in vibration.

The guiding line is our enthusiasm for sharing this point of encounter through the discovery of new musical performance and sonic arts. For us the concert experience is a space and time for social connection.

ICI contains multiple performance spaces placed in a venue, each individual listening context placed in relation to the space’s acoustic and architecture. There are different kinds of sonic arts in each of these different spaces: acousmatic music, 1 on 1 performances, instrumental music, sound installations, performative music, and interactive pieces. Each of these spaces is considered to create the best listening context for the form contained within. There is also a space dedicated to discussion and conviviality for the audience and the musicians.

Here are the different listening contexts that we propose, with a duration from 10 minutes, to continuous.

The stage

The concert is experienced in the traditional frontal configuration. The audience is a group, sitting outside of the performance space. The ensemble performs works that use the stage to its greatest effect, using lighting, video projections, and scenography, to present the works written for the group that make us of this frontal context.

Spacialized pieces

Works for instruments and electronics that occupy a non-traditional performance space, such as an entrance hall, open spaces, or other large open architecture. The audience is surrounded and interspersed within the performers, creating a unique and personalisable listening experience for each audience member.

Interactive pieces

Musical works where the audience is invited to participate, discover, and play together with the ensemble. A moment of equality between performer and audience member, where we discover together new musical technology, or invented instruments.

Listening experiences

Musical pieces that can be experienced alone or in a group, self directed or animated by one of the musicians from the group, these experiences are designed to push the auditive perception of the participants to the limits. Moments of listening and reflection that can be recreated at home, they are an exploration of the magic of listening in daily life.

1 on 1 performances

Musical performances where one musician from the ensemble plays for one audience member at a time, a unique moment that creates a special performer/spectator rapport.

Sound installations

Using tactile transducers on the architecture of the space itself, and on found objects placed in the performance space, these sound installations literally set the space in vibration. Played in real time, or pre-recorded, the sound is projected through the walls, windows, staircases, or any resonant object, for a fully immersive experience.

Acousmatic music

Pieces of electronics and acousmatic music performed in the space on a series of speakers. The architectural qualities of the space will filter and change the pieces, bringing about a mix between the work and the space.
