Joshua Hyde, saxophone
Joshua Hyde is an Australian saxophonist based in Paris. An active performer of new music, he is Co-Artistic director and saxophonist with the new music ensemble soundinitiative in Paris and has worked with young and established composers from Europe, North and South America, Australia and South-East Asia including Liza Lim, Chris Dench, François Rossé, Georges Aperghis, Samuel Andreyev, Bernard Lee Kah Hong, Tania Lanfer, and Colin Tucker among others.
Joshua has performed as a soloist with the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, the Victorian College of the Arts Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, has guested with ensemble musikFabrik (Cologne) and Orchestra Victoria (Melbourne) and regularly performs in Asia as soloist and invited guest with the Singapore based Amigo saxophone quartet. In Europe Joshua works regularly with composers to create and première new music including performances at the Holland Festival, New Music Festival in Darmsdadt (Germany), for the series ‘Musique d’Aujourd’hui sur Scène’ (Paris), and for Nonclassical’s ‘the First Movement’ in Paris. He has had recitals broadcast by ABC Classic FM (Australia) and 3MBS Classically Melbourne as well as performing on recordings for Radio WDR (Cologne).
He has given masterclasses at the University of Melbourne, the Victorian College of the Arts, Kasetsart University (Bangkok), and has been an invited guest artist at the inaugural Singapore Saxophone Symposium and the 4th Scandinavian Saxophone Festival. After completing a Bachelor of Music with Honours at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, Australia, Joshua continued his studies in France at the Bordeaux Conservatoire where he received the prix de perfectionnement in the classes of saxophone and contemporary chamber music of Marie-Bernadette Charrier. After moving to Paris to study with Vincent David at the Conservatoire de Versailles Joshua was accepted into the Paris Conservatoire (CNSMdP) where he is currently completing a Master’s degree in the prestigious saxophone class of internationally renowned soloist Claude Delangle.
He has received numerous prizes and awards including the Weril National Student Award and the Nickson and Willem van Otterloo Travelling Scholarships, in 2010 he was the winner of the 5th International Saxophone Competition in Nantes (France), and in 2011 was awarded the 1st prize and audience prize at the 3rd International Jean-Marie Londeix International Saxophone competition in Bangkok.
